Volume Seven, Issue 3 - October 2000

The last meeting was held on Thursday, September 7th, 2000 at the Rotary Hall in Lion's Head with an excellent attendance. The fishing season is just about over and from many reports everyone had a successful year. We look forward to a mild winter and another year will be upon us soon.

I will try to bring you up to date in this news letter as to the current status of projects and activities that  have occurred since the June Newsletter.

Improvements to Judges Creek: Heavy stone work improvements have been completed and according to several members, the work was finished in a very professional and outstanding manner. I n addition to this 2000 trees were planted along the creek and there is very little work left to be done on this project. At the last meeting, there was a discussion as to what is needed to be done to complete it. This obviously will be pursued next year.

Fish Egg Collection: Once again this project was successful. Thanks very much to Ike and anyone who helped with the care and feeding of the fry. Also, thanks to Bill, Buck, and Jack who wee able to rescue and relaese the fry after the incubator box developed a water flow problem. We are looking to modify this system for the next year so that this does not become a reoccurring problem.

Horseshoes: First Place - 'A' Division  Ron Schenk & Derek Northcote; First Place - 'B' Division George Nudds & Wayne Ward..  Thanks to Gord Elson for arranging this years tournament. Some of the players were unable to complete all their games, therefore, we will be considering a new format for next year.

Annual Fish Derby

What a great derby!!  Special thanks to Steve Bogue and Chic Billings for supervising the weigh in station at the Bogue cottage. It would be remiss to not thank all the volunteer help who manned the station. The help is much appreciated.

For those who donated their "catch", a very special thanks as without the fish, we would not be able to run our annual fish dinner.

Annual Fish Dinner

Some of the comments heard were: "Fantastic, delicious, incredible, mouth watering, super dinner, etc. It was a great success with over 550 fishing club supporters fed. First, we thank Ike for being the coordinator for the supplies, set-up, etc., etc., etc., It's a lot of work and a large responsibility. Thanks again for a job well done...We must remember all those too numerous to mention who helped in set up, serving, cooking, clean up and tear down. This is one function that would not be possible without the member's support. Thanks for all who found the time and were able to help.

Rotary Dinner

Upon the suggestion of President, Don Huehn, a fish diner was prepared and served to the Rotary Club and their wives on September 26th. This is in appreciation for the use of the hall for our monthly meetings over the last several years. It was very much appreciated by the Rotary Club and thanks to Don, Harold, Jim, Chic and their wives for putting it together.

Doctor's Clinic

A motion was made and passed at our last September 7th, 2000 meeting concerning the club making a donation to the current Doctor's Clinic Fund which is much needed in Lion's Head. This was something that all the members present felt was important to the community to encourage new doctors to the area. We will all benefit form the addition to the facilities. At the time of writing, it is my understanding that the goal was reached. The Barrow Bay and District Sport Fishing Association made a donation of $1000.00
